SSTC would like to extend huge thanks and gratitude to Alexia Young and Sarah Wallace from the UK. Sarah and Alexia are two highly experienced Speech and Language Therapists who volunteered with us last week. This is Sarah’s third and Alexia’s second visit to support SSTC’s activities. This time, we worked together to develop FEES competencies relevant to the Cambodia context, work-shopped our FEES report format and devised case studies to deepen the critical thinking of our trainees. Additionally, they provided our Speech-Language-Pathologists with expert training in FEES interpretation and scoping. Thank you so much Sarah and Alexia!
Of her previous trip to Cambodia on behalf of STC, Alexia wrote: “It was the best experience of my career so far.”
“They were so inspirational and thirsty for knowledge. Healthcare is very different over there and it is a much poorer country. I was amazed at how enthusiastic they were about problem solving, asking how they could create solutions in response to the lack of basic equipment.”
“They were so engaged and happy that we were there to help them that I was in tears on the last day. I was absolutely humbled by the experience. …. They were such an amazing group of people that I would go back in a heartbeat.”
