Since March 18, the Cambodian government has restricted public gatherings and limited travel in and out of the country. As of today, there are 107 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Cambodia; but since testing is limited and reporting unreliable, it is difficult to know the full extent of the health crisis. Khmer Soviet Friendship Hospital, one of our partner hospitals, is the main public hospital designated for the treatment of COVID-19 patients in Cambodia.
Our hospital-based trained dysphagia clinicians are continuing to assess and treat patients in their respective hospitals. Due to the uncertainty and risk of the current situation, we have advised our SSTC staff to avoid going into the hospitals and instead to advise and supervise the clinicians through teleconferencing and other means.
Annie and Raul (our speech therapists), Veasna (our executive assistant), and Dalin (our interpreter) are working together to provide online supervision and training the clinicians and to support their work remotely. We are hopeful that Cambodia, with the support of the international community, will manage to limit the extent of this crisis. We will keep you up-to-date as things develop.
