Earlier this year, as COVID-19 began to spread throughout the world, we decided not to have our speech therapist supervisors go into our three partner hospitals in Phnom Penh. Instead they consulted remotely with our hospital-based Cambodia clinicians and worked on planning and materials development.
Fortunately, many of our trained clinicians now require minimal supervision and were able to continue to assess and treat dysphagia patients in their respective hospitals.
To date, COVID-19 has had only limited spread within Cambodia. And so–at the beginning of October–we were able to resume training and supervision at our three partner hospitals in Phnom Penh!
Paula and Annie will work together to complete the training and certification in swallowing disorders for a group of nurses who had completed 90% of their training when the pandemic halted progress. They will be supported in their work by Veasna (SSTC General Manager) and Dalin (translator/interpreter).
