On May 31, Elizabeth Chafcouloff, President and co-founder of Speech Therapy Cambodia, joined a panel of international speech therapists at the (virtual) Speech Pathology Australia (SPA) Conference to discuss issues in setting up speech therapy programs in majority world countries. The theme of the panel was “Does It Really Take 10 Years?” In addition to Elizabeth’s presentation on SSTC work in Cambodia, the panel described programs in Ghana, Bolivia, and Kenya.
The seven-minute video created by SSTC for this presentation includes interviews with SSTC-trained hospital clinicians, as well as SSTC staff and directors. It explores how SSTC’s ‘bottom up’ approach is influencing Cambodian healthcare systems, changing attitudes and fostering the connections necessary to build Speech and Language Therapy in Cambodia.
