In January, we began a new swallow screen training for nurses at Khmer Soviet Friendship Hospital. By training nurses on how to perform a quick initial screening of patients at risk for swallowing problems, we make it possible for our previously-trained dysphagia clinicians to evaluate and treat a larger number of patients than was previously possible. This swallow screening training will also take place in April at a second Cambodian hospital.
The training is being conducted by our Cambodia-based SLP, Eméline Mottais, assisted by SSTC interpreter Dalin Khan. Many thanks to the SSTC team and to Dr. Teav Veasna of KSFH for organizing this course and to our new trainees for their motivation, enthusiasm, and their desire to learn!
We are very glad to welcome these new nurses into the SSTC adventure and to see the speech therapy profession grow in Cambodia.
