Much of the time, during evaluation, it is possible to understand what is wrong with our patient’s swallowing and how to treat it, but not always. Then it is necessary to look inside the patient’s throat to see what might be wrong.
FEES uses a nasal endoscope to assess whether the swallow is normal or impaired. If there is a swallowing problem, FEES helps determine what the swallowing problem might be, and how it might be remediated for safe intake of food and drink.
The spread of COVID-19 meant that we could not really do FEES (Fiberoptic Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallow) for quite some time. But now that everyone is vaccinated, we are back doing this instrument assessment once more. So happy to be able help when our dysphagia patients need FEES!
