This month we received the exciting news that the Curriculum Approval Committee (CAC) of University of Puthisastra has approved the curriculum for the STC-designed course on Dysphagia to be offered by the University in Fall 2023.
Since 2014, STC has been training small groups of hospital clinicians in the evaluation and treatment of dysphagia, but this will be the first course of its kind to be offered by a Cambodian university. This is critical to the sustainability of our profession in Cambodia.
The year-long certificate course is aimed at qualified healthcare professionals (nurses, doctors, and physiotherapists) who already encounter patients with swallowing problems in their current workplaces. Read more about the course design and implementation.
Working with Cambodia’s University of Puthisastra and the Rotary International Foundation, we aim to sustainably and significantly increase the number of Cambodian clinicians who can reach more patients with dysphagia.
The university’s president, Ian Findlay, is optimistic about the future. “No good thing is easy,” he says. “This course isn’t just a good thing; it’s a great thing!”
We are now in the process of recruiting teaching staff and clinical supervisors. If you or someone you know might be interested in getting involved in our life-changing work, please contact me at chafcouloff@gmail.com to find out more about these exciting educational opportunities.
