Volunteer Opportunities for SLPs in Cambodia’s First Dysphagia Course
Over the next three years, Speech Therapy Cambodia will collaborate with the University of Puthisastra to deliver Cambodia’s FIRST post-graduate certificate course in dysphagia management – a groundbreaking initiative that will transform swallowing disorder care in the country.
This yearlong course features a core component of ongoing clinical supervision provided by experienced speech-language pathologists (SLPs), made possible by a generous grant from the Rotary International Foundation.
We are seeking highly experienced speech-language pathologists with at least five years of expertise in dysphagia treatment and management to provide clinical supervision for the second year of our pioneering university course in Cambodia for the 2024-25 academic year.
This is a chance to make a lasting impact on the development of dysphagia care in Cambodia, empowering local healthcare professionals with the knowledge and skills to improve the lives of countless individuals affected by swallowing disorders.
As a Rotary Volunteer, you will have the unique opportunity to collaborate with Cambodian doctors, nurses, and physical therapists, supporting them as they develop crucial skills in dysphagia evaluation and treatment, and mentoring them as they demonstrate their competencies.
With the assistance of Rotary-funded Khmer-English interpreters trained in medical terminology, you will engage with these dedicated clinicians in their workplaces, providing hands-on guidance as they assess and treat patients with swallowing disorders.
Each volunteer placement consists of a three-month rotation during which pairs of Rotary Volunteer SLPs will collaborate closely. Together, you will not only provide personalized clinical supervision but also facilitate in-person workshops. These sessions are designed for trainees to exchange experiences and enhance their understanding of dysphagia management.
Travel and basic living expenses paid for a minimum three-month rotation, thanks to the generous support of Rotary International.

Short-term volunteer opportunities
Other short-term self-funded volunteer opportunities will be coming up in 2026 and beyond. We will be looking for expert SLPs to come to Cambodia to conduct specialized short courses.
These courses will be for trained Cambodian dysphagia clinicians demonstrating interest in and aptitude for more advanced dysphagia skills training beyond what can be addressed in a one-year part-time course.
We are also in the process of setting up tele-practice opportunities for volunteers. Stay tuned!
